A Mi'kmaq Mawio'mi is a gathering of people for various purposes. The aim of this year’s Mawio'mi is to recognize the healing potential of the arts, and to learn other ways of being, thinking, & learning, with a focus on the question: How do we co-exist in a just & peaceful way?
★ The FINAL DAY begins with a sunrise ceremony prayer. Then reconciling with the land, led by Shalan Joudrey. Various workshops throughout the day, for example: Legends, Language & Place Names with Gerald Goade, Therapy Through Art with Bev Walker, Finding Your Inner Poet with Anna Marie Sewell, Indigenizing Education, and much more.
Other events such as Reconciliation, & Decolonizing workshops, plus music, dance, lacrosse & parkour teachings take place throughout the day (too many activities to list here; check the schedule at http://tinyurl.com/Acadia-Mawiomi-Events for changes & most up-to-date events).
In the evening, after the community feast, there will be two keynote speakers, Anna Marie Sewell starts at 6pm and then following her Pamela Palmater will address the assembled with “Canada’s State of Emergency: How First Nations are the Solution.”
This is a community-campus event, so everyone wishing to explore our theme question is welcome to join in and participate.
