The Support Group for Families of Adults with Disabilities known as Outside the Box. It has been one year since our little group started meeting to explore some options and share our stories. We have accomplished a great deal in terms of learning how the systems that support our families work and we have made some great connections. Just last week, more than a dozen families were represented in First Voice Consultation Discussions around shaping the future of the Disabilities Support Program in Nova Scotia and what future programs and services will look like. These are important topics, not just for those with disabilities but for those who even know someone with a disability. A huge issue everyone is facing is the closing of large institutions in the province such as Kings Rehabilitation Centre in Waterville, without alternatives for community living. It will be great to see as many as can turn out for the upcoming meeting to reflect on what has happened in the past year and consider what we would like to do in the months ahead. As a citizen of the community in which you live and work to improve, please share this message with your own contacts. For more information, please contact Sandra Hirtle, sfhirtle@eastlink.ca /Phone 902 538-0358 or Krystal Brown jkbrown@eastlink.ca /Phone 902 765-2433.
