Authors@Acadia is a year-long series of readings and presentations by authors in Canada and abroad. The events are hosted by the Department of English and Theatre at Acadia University, and are open to all members of the public. Books are available for sale at the Box of Delights and at the readings!
Gord Hill is an Indigenous writer, artist and activist of the Kwakwaka'wakw nation. He is the author and illustrator of The 500 Years of Indigenous Resistance Comic Book and The Anti-Capitalist Resistance Comic Book (both published by Arsenal Pulp Press in Vancouver, Canada), as well as the author of the book 500 Years of Indigenous Resistance, published by AK Press in Oakland, California. His art and writings have also been published in numerous periodicals, including Canadian Dimension, Redwire, Red Rising Magazine, The Dominion, Recherches Amerindiennes au Quebec, Intotemak, Seattle Weekly, and Broken Pencil.
This event will be hosted by Stephen Thomas, Energy Campaign Coordinator of the Ecology Action Centre, who had this to say on the topic;
”I am excited an honoured to have been asked to host a discussion on climate justice organizing at Acadia for this year's Sustainability Week. When I learned that Gord Hill's event was happening at the same time, I was excited to instead listen to Gord's words and I'd encourage folks who were looking forward to my talk to join me.
Given the content of my talk and the focus on the defeat of the Energy East Pipeline, climate justice organizing, indigenous solidarity and fossil fuel infrastructure resistance I really think that having the opportunity to hear from Gord Hill is a nice serendipity. Folks will learn so much more about these topics from Gord, I'm sure, and I'm really looking forward to the conversation.“
The Box of Delights is proud to support Authors@Acadia and will have copies of Gord Hill's work on sale!
