Depression can be defined by ‘an absence of moving toward anything’ (John Ratey, MD, author of SPARK). While it is not uncommon to feel sad at times and lack energy, depression affects our mood, motivation and daily functioning. If left untreated, depression can lead to feelings of helplessness and hopelessness.

Pam McKinley is a clinical social worker who has been with Mental Health and Addiction Services for the past 16 years. She is a member of the Seniors Mental Health Team that works with older adults, families and caregivers to address mental health issues in later life.
