The Acadia New Democrats and Oxfam Acadia would like to invite you to join us in the auditorium of the Irving Center at Acadia University. Following the film, a mediated community discussion will take place, regarding the issues addressed in the film. Some of the questions to be discussed: Why are the working poor in Canada less secure? How has that security been eroded over time? What strategies are utilized by other countries to reduce poverty? What can be done to eliminate poverty in Nova Scotia and in Canada?
This event is an effort to bring together students, professors, unionists, social justice activists, youth, community members, leaders and organizations in a safe and respectful environment to discuss poverty and the elimination of poverty. By doing so, we hope to educate ourselves and the broader community about the crisis of poverty in Canada. We also hope to galvanize people to work together on alternative strategies for poverty elimination.
Only collective action can create real change. So, we are asking you to join us in the first step in the process of poverty elimination: education and community discussion. Whether you are a leader, interested in the issue of poverty or just trying to get by paycheque-to-paycheque, your experience, knowledge and ideas will be invaluable to the discussion.
