"12 Hours - 20 Players - 1 Big Gong"
The gorgeous sound of our bronze gamelan degung will be heard continuously for 12 hours as the Acadia Gamelan Ensemble and Class present a Gamelan-a-thon! The event, which is an informal extended concert, is to help raise funds to support our guest artist Ade Suparman's visit to Nova Scotia in April.
Ade Suparman - a master musician from Bandung, Indonesia - is coming to Wolfville to work with the gamelan students at Acadia U, to perform with me in two concerts, and to get his first taste of a Northern climate! (Don't worry, we'll make sure he's well-outfitted for the cold!) I've had the pleasure of working with Ade in Indonesia in 2009 and 2010, and am delighted that he will be joining us here at Acadia in the spring.
We will be ringing the bronze in the lobby of Denton Hall at Acadia University. You can stay to listen for as long as you like, or you can come and go throughout the day. The gamelan will be played in shifts by Acadia gamelan students, so no one (except me!) will be playing for the entire 12 hours.
