About Front Street Community Oven Cookouts:
- cookouts happen every Thursday night from 6:00pm-8:00pm until October
- explore new foods cooked in a wood-fired oven
- celebrate good food
- make new friends and eat together in community
- each week will have a theme
Theme this week: Wood Fire Pitas
We'll aim to have a yeasted pita dough and a sourdough pita dough for us all to try baking in the oven. Sourdough pitas are our favourite, they emit this luscious tangy aroma when you bite into them. Yeasted pitas tend to be a little sweeter. Let’s bake with fire together in the park!
Bring anything you'd like to make your pita inspired picnic in the park.
To get inspired for what to cook, here are a few ideas:

What to bring:
- Anything you’d like to try cooking/baking in the oven for dinner to go in your pitas and any kitchen wear you need to heat up or cook your pita fillings.
- Ideas for pita fillings: donair, swarma, falafel, egg salad, fatoush, bean salad, hummus, cheese, veggies in season (fresh greens, radishes, cucumber, herbs, feta, red onions etc ), fermented and pickled foods (sauerkraut, dill pickles, jalapenos, pickled onions etc.) Almost anything goes well with a pita!
- Anything you’d like for a lovely picnic meal in the park (salads, tea, etc)
- Things needed for food prep & enjoyment
Cutting board and knives
Plates, bowls, and cutlery
- Picnic blankets or chairs for additional seating (there are long harvest picnic tables in the park)
We invite you to offer a donation to help cover costs of running Community Cookouts.
This event is limited to 25 people to maximize opportunities for people to cook.
Please "Register" if you can so we have a sense of numbers and can plan to best host everyone in the space and make enough pita dough!
