Winegrunt is thrilled and honoured to be able to offer our patrons the opportunity to enjoy the music of The Mike Murley 3. While we do take some pride in having developed a solid reputation for offering top-tier music at our little joint since our opening in July 2018, we realize that we merely bask in the glow of the talented musicians who play Winegrunt. Even through the COVID era (except for mandatory shutdowns, of course), we continued to bring in excellent musicians. Well, now that we have turned a corner (of sorts), this exceptional trio of accomplished musicians has come all the way out to Mike Murley’s hometown of Windsor, NS for a Special Event Concert and they have raised the bar higher still. While we maintain the right to boast of our musical lineups over the years, the talent is exclusively that of the musicians and so too is the right to receive all the praise. This evening is exceptionally cool and will certainly rank among the most memorable in the history of Winegrunt Wine Bar. Although some of you will be familiar with this stellar lineup, please read their bios, below, check them out on social media, and play their lps, cds and mp3 tracks to get a more complete idea of the kind of exquisite and truly unique treat that is being offered to you at Winegrunt thanks to these talented musicians. We hope you come out to hear their gorgeous music paired with our food and drink that you can order à la carte from our award-winning menu for an extraordinary evening at “the heart of the Windsor strip!”

Please contact us at info@winegrunt.com for tickets. This night will be musical magic!
MIKE MURLEY
An engaging, lyrical saxophonist, Windsor native Mike Murley is one of Canada’s most celebrated and well-respected jazz artists. He has played on fourteen Juno Award-winning recordings since 1990, seven as a leader or co-leader, seven as a sideman. His most recent Junos include The North (2018), Metalwood’s Twenty (2017), and his trio’s Test of Time (2013). Murley moved to Toronto in 1981 and has enjoyed a career that has spanned a wide stylistic spectrum. Recordings with legendary Canadian artists such as Ed Bickert, Rob McConnell, and Guido Basso showcase the saxophonist’s talents in the mainstream standard repertoire. On the more contemporary side, Murley has collaborated frequently with younger generations of improviser/composers including pianist David Braid and guitarist David Occhipinti. He is also well known for his work with the three-time Juno Award winning electric jazz group Metalwood. In addition, he has recorded and performed with numerous international artists including David Liebman, Renee Rosnes, John Schofield, Norma Winstone, as well as the late Paul Bley, John Abercrombie, and Kenny Wheeler.
As an educator, Murley has held positions at the University of Toronto, York University, Humber College, and as a visiting member of faculty at the Banff School of Fine Arts. He also served as Jazz Area Chair/Coordinator at both U of T (2016-18, 2020-21) and York (2008-11).
In 2022, Murley retired from teaching and moved to Halifax NS from where he continues to tour nationally and internationally.
