Allyship and How to Become an Ally
Wednesday September 14, 2022  6:30pm - 8:30pm (2 Hours)
Lecture / Seminar Meeting / Club Community

What is allyship, and why is it important? Allyship is the practice of unlearning and re-evaluating, in which a person in a position of privilege and power seeks to operate in solidarity with a marginalized group. It's an opportunity for personal growth and community development, because everyone has the capacity to be an ally.

Join us for our first monthly networking meeting of the fall season. The meeting will include a presentation and workshop to explore allyship in your personal and professional life. The workshop will help you develop bias awareness, finely tune your words and strategies, and be ready for opportunities to create conversations that matter. You will also be able to network with others who are interested in equity and inclusion.

The presenter, Corrie Melanson (she/they) of Sea Change CoLab, is a queer, able-bodied, white settler in Kjipuktuk/Halifax. Corrie is a dynamic and creative facilitator and instructional designer with over 20 years of experience. She designs impactful learning experiences and resources, including courses, infographics, videos, audio stories, and training that inspire and delight users. In her community, Corrie co-founded Rainbow Refugees Association of Nova Scotia, an organization that seeks to support and privately sponsor lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQI+) refugees.

You will receive the link to the Zoom meeting just before the event.
