The coaches and coordinators of the Berwick Junior Curling Program are getting excited about the upcoming season!
Parents or guardians are responsible for ensuring their junior curler has a gripper for their non-sliding foot. These can be purchased at Winning Edge Sports in the Kings Mutual Century Centre, at The Curling Store in HRM, or online. Please let us know if you have any questions about this. Winning Edge Sports will be on-site on registration night with grippers, curling gloves and mitts that can be purchased.
Curling will take place on Monday from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m.. Monday will generally be for new curlers and curlers under 13 years. Thursday evenings will be for curlers 13 years and older. However, if spaces on Monday become limited due to coach availability, we may ask your curler to switch to Thursday evening.
This year we are requiring parents volunteer in some capacity through the season. There are a number of ways you can support the program:
- Eyes on the ice - you don’t have to do coaching course, just help keep kids safe - at least 2-3 parents/night. You don’t have to be a curler to do it - just wear your woolies and indoor sneakers
- Bonspiels
- Run the warm-up session; videos before the ice time
- Canteen during events
- Fundraising support
- Cleaning the bathrooms
- Check for shoes, appropriate attire
- Switching up rocks after the junior program is done
Adults volunteering will be required to complete criminal records check and vulnerable sector registry clearance prior to helping.
Cash or cheque, or arrange for e-transfer, and sign the Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims and Indemnity Agreement. You'll also have an opportunity to meet other junior curlers and their families, and the coaches for the 2023-24 season.
