Next up on the Sofa are The Old Beef Stringband and Art Bouman. Join us for an afternoon of trad music and good company. Show is all ages and starts at 3pm upstairs in the Artists Landing Art Gallery (Kids get in free!).
The Old Beef Stringband is a three-piece acoustic band based in Halifax/Mi’kma‘ki, Nova Scotia. Their sound is rooted in the Appalachian mountain music of the American south. Performances include original and traditional repertoire featuring playful harmonies, compelling ballads, and driving tunes with fiddle and mandolin going head-to-head. The band weaves in the percussive rhythm of flatfoot step dancing with their tunes to create a full musical experience.
Art Bouman is a Halifax based folk musician who plays African American roots and old time music. He uses this music as a way to lift up the stories and songs of past peoples and connect them to their relevant context today.
