All gardeners must consider how to manage their garden in the face of climate change: in Nova Scotia, more extreme droughts, rainfall events, storms, even the Polar Vortex. Using her wide experience of British gardens Sarah suggests how to adapt so your garden still brings enjoyment, flowers and be future proofed. She will talk about using alternative plant choices, making your garden more robust, and avoiding the ravages of pests and diseases.

Presentation will be held in the Cafe building in the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens. Admission by Free Will Offering.

Dr. Sarah Rutherford is a Kew-trained horticulturalist and garden historian from Oxford England. She has published the book “Capability Brown and His Landscape Gardens” for the National Trust (2016), and has written other books on garden history including six titles for the Shire Library. In her work in compiling conservation plans for historic parks and gardens climate change is always a factor. She recently completed a study for Wakehurst Place, site of the Kew Millenium Seed Bank, including aspects of impact of climate change on their world-class plant collections. Some of her titles will be available to buy on the night.
