Jam Dance from 11:00am to 12:00pm is a safe program for helping communities learn how to mix and play with people who have different abilities, brains and bodies. It is a fun, creative movement and musical experience that fosters social engagement; where everyone is validated.
No experience required. Everyone is welcome!
Then from 1:30pm to 3:30pm Creative Process Sessions, offered in partnership with Music in Communities, take a unique approach teaching improvisation in a non-stylized way, with a focus on the fundamentals of creativity and craft. They offer a range of topics including meditation and mindfulness exercises, listening exercises, movement and body-awareness exercises, vocal-based group improvisations, embodied rhythmic practice, while also helping students navigate common performance issues such as facing fear, habitual patterns, and self-doubt. The sessions are led by faculty members of the Creative Music Workshop, a longstanding intensive offered annually as part of the TD Halifax Jazz Festival. https://www.creativemusicworkshops.com/
