The What, Why, and How of Artist Residencies
November 14, 2024
Bonnie Baker, Sally O'Grady, Deb Kuzyk, Julie Rosvall and Adam Gunn lead a discussion based on their recent experiences with Artist-in-Residence programs in Iceland, Sable Island, Museum of Natural History (Halifax), The Rooms (Newfoundland) and the Banff Centre for the Arts (Alberta).
Description:
As a practicing artist have you every considered applying to be an artist-in-residence? Art residencies provide artists with an opportunity to work in a new and inspiring environment, sometimes to connect with other creative individuals, to showcase their work to a wider audience, to focus solely on their art, and to have a life-changing experience.
Join us to hear about the benefits of being an artist-in-residence from five Nova Scotians who have recently completed residencies.
Questions considered will include:
- What is the goal of a residency?
- How are residencies funded?
- What do you need to do to secure a residency?
Discover how an artist residency can benefit your artistic practice.
Participating artists are:
- Bonnie Baker (residency in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland)
- Sally O'Grady (residency on Sable Island)
- Deb Kuzyk (residency at the Museum of Natural History, Halifax)
- Julie Rosvall (residency at The Rooms, Newfoundland)
- Adam Gunn (residency at Banff Centre for the Arts, Alberta)
