The Acadia University Singers present “Songs for a Winter’s Night” – a concert of seasonal music that explores different perspectives on winter.
As part of the program, the Singers and special guest cellist Connor Cornick will perform Sarah Quartel’s “Snow Angel,” a 5-movement cycle for choir, piano, and cello that uses the metaphor of winter angels to celebrate the “beauty, and the strength that a child’s voice can bring to our troubled world” (Quartel). Other selections include music by Andrew Balfour, Jennifer Lucy Cook, Ola Gjeilo, Katerina Gimon, Marie Claire Saindon, and Robbie Smith, plus a beautiful choral arrangement of Gordon Lightfoot’s classic, “Song for a Winter’s Night”. With a mix of new music and seasonal favourites, this is a program of music that will warm your heart – even if it is cold outside!
Directed by Dr. Michelle Boyd, the Acadia University Singers are a treble-voice chamber choir, comprised of both current students and alumni. Joining them in performance are pianist Cian McCarron as well as several guest musicians from the School of Music.
