The fine arts are flowers in the field of life. In Horton High School’s fine arts programs, students are given the opportunity to grow their artistic passions. There are three main programs, or departments, offered to the students: music, theatre, and visual arts.

Music without passion and creativity is just sound. Fortunately, Horton musicians have plenty of both. The students learn many skills, from playing a plethora of different instruments, to composing songs, and how to sing as part of a choir. They perform all sorts of music, from more orchestral pieces to jazz, to pieces that focus on string instruments or saxophones. The music department also puts on three concerts throughout the year, along with several smaller events, for fundraising and fun!

Theatre at Horton gives students the opportunity to explore a creative world of acting and drama. With very dedicated teachers, Horton students are able to gain confidence in their own ideas and skills whilst on stage. This year, Horton is collaborating with Quick As A Wink Theatre and Avon View High, in preparation for the musical production; Les Misérables: School Edition! Keep a lookout for the performance dates to watch this poignant and timeless musical at Horton High School to support our students!

Horton’s visual arts program centers around the construction and design of artworks, such as painting, sculpting, and even photography. Here, students learn how to play. Art is human instinct, and to play is to interact with it, and to make art is to express it. Students are encouraged to present these expressions, their artwork, to the public through a biannual art show and various locations around the community.

If you would like to experience these creative expressions in person, we welcome you to join us, for Essence of Expression! An evening to display the artistic talents of the students, and hopefully inspire you!
