The "Laureate of the lonesome song", Zachary Lucky returns to Canning for a show at the Annex with the Steam Mill Band supporting.
The sixth album from Zachary Lucky, The Wind is a poignant exploration of life's unexpected journeys and the winds that shape our paths. Through a series of evocative songs, Lucky crafts a tapestry of characters at crossroads, grappling with the unpredictable twists of fate. Each track delves into themes of change, love, and the perpetual motion of life, capturing both the heartache of love lost and the joy of love found. With its reflective storytelling and atmospheric melodies, The Wind offers a soulful reminder of the beauty and uncertainty that accompany our personal journeys.
The Steam Mill Band is a new old-time duo in the Valley. Local Alex Nemet plays the banjo in an energetic traditional clawhammer style, while Anna Dowson, originally from across the pond, brings her own distinctive touch to the duo with her guitar. Their music is a lively fusion of Appalachian traditions alongside the folk sounds of England, Ireland, and Scotland, reflecting their shared transatlantic roots.
When Alex isn’t picking his banjo, you’ll find him in his workshop, crafting handcrafted instruments under the name Fundy Banjos. It’s where his passion for both music and woodworking come together in perfect harmony.
