Music In Communities hosts a great line-up coming for this All-Ages show at the Annex, featuring west coast indie songwriter Sam Tudor, New Brunswick's Pallmer, and local teen Lily Milne-Gunn opening.
We have loved hearing Lily develop as a musician since we launched the after-school rock jam. With great guitar chops, a beautiful voice and a great ear, she is a talent to watch for, and we're so proud to support her musical journey.
Pallmer is a chamber-pop project born from late night improv sessions during a particularly snowy winter in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Using a cello and viola, the band’s music melds their love of songwriting with their classical training, using loopers and effects to expand the possibilities of their wooden instruments. Pallmer’s most recent release, “Quiet Clapping” won Recording of the Year at the 2021 Prix MNB Awards. The collection of five songs were recorded in a large dance studio at the back of a church-converted-to-arts centre, taking advantage of its natural resonance, and embracing the occasional noises from old water heating. Pallmer released a limited edition, double-header vinyl run of “Quiet Clapping” & their 2019 release, “Grass Garden'' on April 9th, 2022.
The band has taken a slow but steady approach to releasing music, and after two EPs and two years of writing, this past fall Pallmer returned to the studio to record their first LP “Swimming.” They worked with JUNO award-winning producer Joshua van Tassel, squirrelling away for five days at his secluded home studio to record the album. Their collaboration produced a tender collection of 9 songs that interweaves layers of strings, bass, synthesizers, and marimba-like percussion. The title track “Swimming” won Song of the Year at the 2024 MNB Awards, the album was nominated for a 2024 MNB Award for Recording of the Year, and the single Freshet was nominated for a 2024 ECMA Fusion Recording of the Year. Since beginning the album release cycle, the band has extensively toured throughout Canada (traveling the length of the country twice!), and performed at notable festivals Reeperbahn (Hamburg, Germany), POP Montreal, Contact East, Harvest, Shivering Songs, Flourish, and more.

Sam Tudor is both an individual and a project involving a group of friends in Canada. The underpinnings of the songs are genre-less; jazz players join forces with Eno inspired beats while acoustic guitars meet distorted synths. What unifies the project is Tudor’s distinct voice: a sandy, melancholic narrator, leaning in close with confessional and cathartic writing. The band’s live show is reverent and at times bombastic - a celebration of community done with an easy virtuosity born from years playing music together.
The band’s latest release is their 2024 EP Hidden Minute. Their most recent full length album, Two Half Words, was released in 2021. Tudor and the band have toured in Canada, Japan, the United States and more. They have received coverage and acclaim from VICE Magazine, KEXP Radio, Exclaim Magazine, CBC Afterdark, The Vancouver Sun and others.
