On Golden Pond, by Ernest Thompson is about the warm, loving relationship between two elderly people who have been coming to their cottage on their beloved lake for many years. The father’s relationship with their daughter has always been somewhat strained but this summer when Chelsea comes to visit, there is hope of reconciliation. She brings her new boyfriend with her and the boyfriend’s 13 year old son, Billy. Billy quickly becomes the grandchild the couple never had. One of the more light-hearted moments of the play centers around Charlie, the mailman, an amiable fixture on Golden Pond and long-time suitor of Chelsea .
The play probably will have most appeal for an older audience who will find themselves swinging between laughter at Norman ’s tart-tongued observations, and tears as the couple come face to face with the reality of life’s uncertainty. On Golden Pond is most suitable for children over 12.
On Golden Pond, directed by George Henry and Tracy Churchill, stars Diana Bishop and Peter Booth as the elderly couple. Other performers include Paul Abela, Brenda Ellis, Aidan Fisk and Brian Smit.
On Golden Pond opens on Thursday, July 28 (pay what you can), and continues playing on Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm until September 3. There will be a 2pm matinee on Sunday, August 21.
