"Songs of Home" - a recital featuring faculty members Dr. Christianne Rushton (mezzo soprano) and Dr. Deanne van Rooyen (harp) with Scott Henderson (Uillean pipes).
"Songs of Home" combines voice, Uilleann pipes, and harp in a selection of pieces that explore the meaning of place and belonging, intertwined with depictions of nature. In Schumann's Liederkreis a lonely traveler reflects on the meaning of home while wandering the countryside and forests; in traditional Cape Breton melodies we celebrate a culture rooted in place. These pieces written for and about specific places invite us to consider our notions of what it means to have a place to call our own, and what we lose or gain when we wander far afield…
