Join us for our 1st Annual Rockhounder’s Weekend. Meet some of the
local “pros” and rockhounds new to the obsession...oops!....”hobby”.
On Friday evening we will gather around the campfire to be schooled on the basics: where, what and when to look for rocks, and what you can do with your finds. Hounds will share their adventure stories of hikes and climbs along the Blomidon Penninsula aka “Rockhound’s Paradise” and display some cut and polished show pieces of common minerals (agate, amethyst, jasper, quartz) in rare and beautiful forms. Meet @ Camp Ground Host Site.
Saturday afternoon, as the tide starts to head out, join in on a guided hike (30 min.) along Blomidon Beach, through the “boulder fields” to Blomidon or “Rob’s” Slide -named for Lapidary and Master Rockhounder, Robert Baird (www.robsrockshop.com). Learn how to “read the rocks” and find out about the treasures (geodes, amethyst-sandwiches) you have been stumbling over for years. Meet @ Blomidon Beach Parking and wear sturdy footwear.
Info: Park 582 7319 or charlanebishop@gmail.com, check out
