Presented by The Annapolis District Drama Group
Directed by Simon Bonnington and Dany Rousseau
Dany and Simon are delighted to bring to King’s Theatre stage ‘The Phoenix Showcase’, harnessing the boundless talents and experience of the Cast and Crew of the erstwhile “The Underpants” in an exciting, hilarious, slick and seamless journey in drama, dance and song.
And, boy, does ADDG have a SHOW for you!!
The audience will be whisked through a half-dozen short plays, ranging in performance length from 3 to 12 mins, which are carefully intertwined with hilarious Ensemble and Solo songs, deft and dazzling dance routines, and a brief monologue or two.
From rum-smuggling to witch trials, old rumours to new homes, the monotony of work-life balance, and the travails of wannabe faded lights, hat and cane razzmatazz from Broadway, broken aspirations of misguided auditionees… and a horse’s head cane.
Act 1 ~50 mins, Act 2 ~40 mins
‘Work-life Balance’ – by Dany Rousseau
Can frazzled bureaucrat Mr S achieve true happiness? Not if his well-intentioned secretary Joanne has anything to do about it. Is his frustration deliberately contrived? There’s a helluva chance it is!
‘Sight Unseen’ – by Wayne Currie
Come From Away newcomers find that small town living takes some getting used to, in a community where who you know might count for something. Or not! And is that a coyote? Or just the local friendly… bulldog?
‘A Second Opinion’ – by Dany Rousseau
Sassy bubble-gum chewing Anne faces down Salem’s Witchfinder; can her wit and back-chat force his hand, or like a moth will she flutter too close to the flames. Perhaps the staying hand of outside help might intervene?
‘A Rum Line To Nowhere’ – by Simon Bonnington
Down at Dory’s Dive Bar, where the whiff of seaweed, rum and gunpowder creates a heady haze for chisel-jawed wise-cracker Jack Raymond, as he seeks to solve Tommy’s murder, and unravel the smuggler’s secrets.
‘Much Ado About Method’ – by Simon Bonnington
The fraught Play Director has just about had enough. Faded light Julian cannot accept his shortcomings, the props are missing, the costumes don’t fit… and the Theatre itself has something to say about it!
‘Just Friends’ – by Simon Bonnington
That’s all we are! Honestly! But why let the truth get in the way of a good rumour? Especially when concerned neighbours and family attempt to set matters straight. Sorry, did we say concerned? Maybe we just meant nosy.
