Back by popular request, we'll be bringing people together to learn the ins and outs of being in a band and working together to create music and communicate musical ideas in a week long camp, Aug 17-21

What to expect from the camp:
During the week the kids will be paired into groups and work together while learning the necessary skills to perform and have success in the music industry with a band. The genre will be chosen by the participants, but songs will be handpicked by me to assure a level of difficulty that will help us to have a successful performance at the end of the camp. If your child has a particular song they are eager to perform, please feel free to email me at least 2 weeks prior to the camp to see if it would be possible.

The camp will encompass not only performing, but will also focus on teaching the kids numerous skills such as:
- Music literacy and how to communicate musical ideas
- Instrument technique
- How to set up sound equipment such as amps, microphones, and a PA
- Marketing and branding, how to promote your music
- Safety precautions to prevent hearing loss

The outline for the day will look something like this:
10:00 - 11:30 - Games and exercises to teach teamwork and music literacy
11:30 - 12:00 - Lunch Break
12:00 - 3:00 - Kids will be split into three groups (bands) and revolve every half hour through three stations -
1. Performance/Practice: this is the station where bands will actually practice their songs performing them live for the group in the next station
2. Sound/Listening: at this station a group will be listening to the performing band and making notes on how the current performing band could improve (with my guidance). This group will also be learning how to operate the sound equipment to help make the performing band sound great.
3. Branding/Marketing: at this station kids will work on creating various materials to support interest and engagement in their band. Some items would include a band name, a logo, a short bio describing their sound, etc. This is also where kids can brainstorm creative ideas for their performance on Saturday.

Notes:
Some instruments will be provided (electric guitar, electric bass, and drum kit), it is advisable to bring your own instrument (except for drum kit), drum sticks, tuner, etc.

The camp is intended for children age 10 - 16. If your child is outside of this age range and you are still hoping for them to attend the camp, please email me directly ([email protected]) to discuss further.

Lunch will not provided.

The performance at the Royal Canadian Legion in Wolfville, will be from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on August 22nd.

A computer will be used for a portion of the programming for marketing and promotion. Please let me know if you have any stipulations around screen use for your child.
