Learn how your community can build stronger neighbour networks and support each other in this 90-minute workshop. Simple systems put in place can prevent confusion in stressful moments. Drawing on real Nova Scotia Guard deployments, Neal Alderson illustrates how volunteers can reduce pressure on responders and help maintain stability when conditions shift. Participants leave with grounded tools, clear expectations, and a realistic understanding of how everyday volunteers can anchor resilience across Nova Scotia.

About the presenter:
Neal Alderson is with Nova Scotia's Department of Emergency Management. The Guard is a province wide emergency volunteer corps with more 1,600 members supporting communities during storms, fires, floods, searches, and hardship. Known for his grounded, neighbours first approach, Alderson helps communities build resilience through simple systems, strong relationships, and volunteers who show up when disruption strikes.
