Take your love of birds to the next level by creating habitat in your yard or garden that provides life-saving resources (think food, water, and shelter) for birds throughout the year. Gardening is an excellent way to ensure that outdoor spaces, whether large or small, help wildlife. Many North American bird species are in decline due to habitat loss and degradation, among other global threats. You can help, and we’ll walk you through how to start or enhance your existing bird garden.
Ally Manthorne is an Associate Director of Atlantic Programs and Aerial Insectivore Conservation Strategist with Birds Canada. Her work focuses on bringing together partners to address threats to birds through monitoring, targeted outreach and science-based advocacy. Ally also owns a fledgling plant nursery in Sackville, NB specializing in native and non-invasive plants and enjoys combining her love of birds and plants through bird-friendly gardening.
