Guest speakers, food entrepreneurs in the 'Gentle Dragon's Den', Networking showcase and reception, October Flavours Dinner, Live Auction.
The Guest Speakers will describe the economic, social, health, and other benefits of producing food and investing in food enterprises in Nova Scotia. Speakers include Chris DeWaal – Getaway Farms and Chair of Seaport Market, Paul Emile LeBlanc – CEO of Caisse Populaire de Clare, Mary Sue Waisman – Chair of the Nova Scotia Food Policy Council, Richard Melvin – Chair of FarmWorks Investment Co-op, a yet-to-be announced guest.
The “Gentle Dragon's Den” with audience participation will showcase eight Nova Scotian entrepreneur’s plans for providing more local, sustainable, healthy food. The “Gentle Dragons” include Debra Moore – Just Us Coffee Roasters, Jonathan McClelland – Business Development, NS Co-op Council, and Edith Callaghan – Business Professor, Acadia University.
The Networking Reception will showcase the applicants who are seeking funding in order to increase sustainable production of food and beverages. These applicants will have the opportunity to participate in FarmWorks mentoring sessions in the spring of 2012.
The Reception and October Falvours Dinner will feature fine Nova Scotian foods prepared by Impressions Chef Michael McKinnon. Nova Scotian wine and other beverages will be available. The menu will be posted on the friendsofagriculture.net website.
A Live Auction will close the evening. Proceeds from the Fall Food Festival and auction will be divided among the participating applicants.
This event is an opportunity for people to learn about opportunities to support the growing and processing of Nova Scotian food, and to enjoy that food in the company of the people who provide it. Food-related enterprises in NS contribute to sustainability, support the economy, and help communities thrive.
