Missa Gaia, 19-21 April 2012
The King’s Chorus and Capella Regalis Men and Boys Choir, under the direction of Nick Halley, will perform the Paul Winter Consort’s wild and dramatic Missa Gaia or Earth Mass in honour of Earth Day Weekend. The concert will take place at Convocation Hall, Acadia University, in Wolfville, on Thursday, April 19th, 7.30 PM, at St John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg, on Friday, April 20th, 7.30 PM, and at First Baptist Church, Halifax, on April 21st, 2.00 PM.
Missa Gaia is a jubilant contemporary mass, based on a traditional mass setting, but added to which are the songs of the whale, loon, and the wolf, and the elemental power of African and Brazilian percussion. Performing with the choirs will be the American gospel singer Theresa Thomason and a band of 10 musicians, including Paul Halley (one of the composers of Missa Gaia) on piano, Dani Oore on saxophones, and Nick Halley on drums.
