Music
TorQ Percussion Seminar participants\nPerform “In C” by Terry Riley\nOutside the Wolfville Farmers’ Market\n4PM, July 18\n\nTerry Riley’s pioneering work of minimalism “In C” (1964) is a truly elegant and unique composition. Comprising 53 brief musical “cells” lasting anywhere from a half a beat to 32 beats, “In C” can be played by any number of musicians, on any instruments of their choosing. The piece shifts from cell to cell by unspoken collective will, becoming a hypnotic ritual of musical community. “In C” can last anywhere twenty minutes to several hours and beyond. At various moments, “In C” sounds like a cascade of laughing birds, a mountain lake humming to itself, or mating season in a herd of wild pianos. At all points, it is beyond beautiful.\n\nThe TorQ Percussion Seminar is a week-long intensive study period for university-level percussionists who share a passion for and commitment to contemporary percussion music. It is a forum for percussionists from across the country and beyond to learn, experiment, dissect, expand and redefine their craft. It is an opportunity to find your voice and join other players looking to foster a culture and community of percussion.\nSet in the heart of the Annapolis Valley in scenic Wolfville, Nova Scotia and presented by Acadia University's Summer Music Academy, Faculty will include all four members of the TorQ Percussion Quartet along with Mark Adam (Head of Percussion at Acadia University). Participants of the 2012 Seminar hail from Newfoundland, PEI, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, New Jersey and Japan.\n\nCome see this exciting and seminal work.\n\nMark Grant-Adam\nAcadia University\nSchool of Music\n902.585.1778\n902.585.1037 (Fax)\nMark’s MySpace http://myspace.com/markadamdrums\nTin Banger http://myspace.com/tinbangermusic\nMark’s bio http://music.acadiau.ca/faculty_adam.php\nBRAND NEW!
