Works by Carol Mahtab, 1935-2012, will be shown in the Chapel Gallery at ARTsPLACE, Annapolis Royal from October 28- November 25, 2012. The prolific artist and environmental activist from Digby Neck passed away last January. The show will open on Sunday October 28th from 2-4pm. At about 3:30pm, there will be an open invitation to share reflections on Carol’s life and work.
Carol was a painter whose professional work spans some 50 years. Her deeply contemplative abstract works reflect her interest in Japanese Zen culture and the foggy seascapes of her home in Sandy Cove.
Since 2001, her work has been carried by Studio21 Fine Art in Halifax. The Chapel Gallery show, organized by her husband Ashraf Mahtab and friends Brad Hall and Janet Larkman, is intended to celebrate her work, honour her memory, and offer a window into her studio life. Although the works have been selected from a range of periods, it is not intended to be a retrospective. Rather, the show offers a small but powerful sampling of large and small works, many of which have never been shown together, and some of which have never been publicly shown at all.
