Quasar Saxophone Quartet in Recital (STS Concert 3)
Ardent devotees of the music of our time, the Quasar saxophone quartet is dedicated to premiering and promoting contemporary music that is multi-dimensionally conceived. Celebrated for its energy, audacity and exceptional technical ability, Quasar explores different aspects of artistic creation from instrumental music to live electronics, from improvisation to instrumental theatre. Quasar is the winner of 4 Opus prizes awarded by the Conseil québécois de la musique : the Opus prize “performer of the year”, 2 OPUS prizes “concert of the year in new music and electroacoustics” category and one opus prize in the category “new work of the year”. Member of Le Vivier, Quasar is supported by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts de Montréal and the Socan Foundation.

The Acadia New Music Society promotes contemporary concert music in the Annapolis Valley. The primary outlet for this is an annual New Music Festival called ‘Shattering the Silence’.
This year we are proud to present Pulitzer Prize winning composer Michael Colgrass as our SOCAN Foundation composer-in-residence, and Quasar Saxophone Quartet as our artists in residence for this five-day festival.
