The Arts Based Research Network (ABR) invites you the following public talk:

Dick Groot, “A Photographic Life and Tidelines of the Minas Basin”
His talk will reflect his development as a photographer with emphasis on new technologies with cameras, processing, and presentation techniques.

Quiet Reading Room, Vaughan Memorial Library

Speaker Bio: Dick Groot is a photographer, working since 2002 from Wolfville. His main photographic interests are the photography of abandoned industrial sites, street photography, portraiture, and because of its compelling daily presence he cannot avoid photographing the tidal landscape extensively. Since 2002 he has had 5 solo exhibits in Nova Scotia and Havana at the Fototeca de Cuba. His most recent exhibit was "Tidelines" an installation of 32 photographs of the tidal landscape displayed in a large mobile hung in a soundscape of poetry inspired by the landscape by John Frederic Herbin and Onno Kosters, connected by sounds of the tidal landscape containing three musical moments composed by Derek Charke. Dick's work hangs in private collections in Canada and various other countries in North America and Europe. He is currently working with his colleague Hannah Minzloff on a social project "Ribbon to the Future", a story in photographs and interviews on economic development and its future perspective in the Annapolis Valley, centred on Route #1 (the ribbon). The ABR (arts based research) Network @ Acadia is a multi-faculty, cross-disciplinary network and provides an opportunity for members of the Acadia University community using, or interested in using, the creative arts in research. It is a forum to share current research projects and to encourage collaboration. The ABR Network @ Acadia also offers opportunities to inform our community about, and to celebrate, arts-based research happening at Acadia University and in other locations.
