Maritime Concert Opera will present its in concert production of Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore (The Elixir of Love).

The Elixir of Love is a light-hearted romp from start to finish. Nemorino is desperately in love with Adina. But he's a simple peasant and she's a wealthy and beautiful woman. How can he pluck up the courage to tell her how he feels? Enter the quack salesman, Dr. Dulcamara, who peddles cheap red wine as an elixir of love. Much to everyone's surprise (even the Doctor's), his magical potion soon seems to have every girl in the village eager to marry Nemorino, with comic complications.

Canadian singers heading up the cast include young tenor Stephen Bell as the peasant Nemorino and baritone Justin Welsh as the pompous Sergeant Belcore. MCO favourite Andrew Tees will probably steal the show as the quack doctor.

Two Nova Scotian sopranos make their debuts with MCO in this opera. Dartmouth soprano and Dalhousie grad Kristi Bryson in her MCO debut as the wealthy Adina. Adina's friend, Gianetta is played by young Bridgewater soprano Katie Cochrane, a graduate of Acadia University.

The cast will perform the opera in the original Italian, with projected English translations to make sure the audience doesn't miss any of the fun. Music Director Tara Scott will accompany all three of the performances. The MCO chorus consisting of over 30 choristers and under the direction of Jane Kristensen is also featured.
