All our welcome to join the Avon River Heritage Society Museum and the Hants County Arts Council in welcoming several fibre artists for the second instalment of Heritage Artisans in Action. Taking place throughout the museum, we will be joined by local artists Rose Marie MacDonald, Tacha Reed and Kim Ellis to demonstrate their craft and display a selection of their creations.
Rose Marie’s love for fibre began in Newfoundland, where
she was raised. Over time her passion has grown and has earned her many awards. As one of the members of the talented group “Gateway Hookers” Rose Marie is well known for her beautiful pictorial rugs and framed fibre art pieces.
A shrunken sweater and a piece of tie-dyed wool roving
was the only inspiration Tacha needed to create her first
of many whimsical Woodland Wool critters. Continual
experimentations with felt and fibre has lead to the
creation of tactile three-dimensional scenes, which
she’s dubbed “feltscapes.”
You may already know Kim as the woman behind
Suzie Q’s Boutique and Yarn Emporium, but did you know her passion for fibre goes even deeper than what you see in her fantastic shop? Kim dyes and spins her own wool that she’s collected from her pet sheep “Short Pants” and “Grannie.”
