All our welcome to join the Avon River Heritage Society Museum (ARHS) and the Hants County Arts Council (HCAC) in welcoming leather worker James Brown for the fourth instalment of Heritage Artisans in Action, taking place throughout the ARHS museum in Newport Landing.

James Brown is a master saddle maker residing in Mount Uniacke. Nova Scotia. James can often be found working in his shop “Steady Brook Saddlery“ located on the Etter Road; here he designs and crafts custom leather pieces.

A juried member of the Nova Scotia Designer Craft Council, James has been a consummate crafts-person in this trade for over twenty one years. "I love it," he says, "I have to force myself to take time off".

Brown is as devoted to quality as he is to the product. "I will only use the best leather, the finest handcrafted saddle trees and the highest grade silver trim from some of the top silversmiths in North America - the best of all and any materials required!”

When it comes to the craftsmanship "I take on a project slowly" he explains "and I ease my way through it. You can't rush a quality piece of work and I want to be known for my exceptional quality."
