Momma's Boy
Thursday November 21, 2013  7pm - 9pm (2 Hours)
Theatre

Presented by Bear & Co.

How to find home? Chase a career or start a family? Stay or go? Is there ever a good time?
Momma’s Boy explores the choices facing young adults as they begin their working lives. A Romance with a Crack, the play twists together the choices made by three characters in an isolated northern town. Audiences connect strongly to their stories, leaving the show deeply invested in one outcome. The show ripples through discussions long after the final song fades.
Daphne Perchovik is a pioneer, toughened by the choice to live as a farmer. Ginny Smart, her daughter, chooses the surest route out, using her education to go as far from Sioux Lookout , Ontario, as she can get. Jordan Banks escapes the pessimism of the big city, to find his last hope may actually flower. Three destinies formed by individual choice, until the possibility of a baby oversets the plans. Playwright Eleanor Crowder writes our lives now.

This is a rare opportunity to meet a new Canadian play on its premiere tour. Professor Shannon Hengen of Laurentian University says, “I have not seen a Canadian script speak so directly to our experience. This script is a parable for our modern life. For the way young women and young men live now. ”

Bear & Co. brings Compelling Theatre Close to Home. This time, the show strikes close to the heart and is staged in intimate spaces. A corridor staging puts you close up. Think movie set: you are in the director’s chair. Audiences say : Tender. Quirky. Grabs you by the heart and does not let go.
