With Kings County Cultural Map, Colibri Software, The Edible Landscape, Landmark Geographic Solutions, Noreca Consulting, Marcel Morin
The return of the Local Projects Roundup where we give the floor to a bunch of folks to highlight their New Media initiatives with a series of short presentations. Focus this round (which is round 4, BTW) are projects and businesses working in the GIS space.
Kings County Cultural Map
Genevieve Allen Hearn is an Arts-Based Community Developer. Ed Symons is a Geomatics Specialist. Together they created the Kings County Cultural Map, an open-sourced, community-driven map that identifies both tangible and intangible cultural assets in Kings County. The map includes places, groups, businesses, organizations and stories that connect us to our geographic region.
Strollopia
Colibri Software is in the process of working with a variety of tour organizations to launch its new mobile app, Strollopia. Strollopia is a virtual tour guide that delivers content to users based on where they are and what they're interested in. Sara will be giving a presentation on Colibri's vision for the app.
The Edible Landscape
We are what we eat. What we eat is a function of a healthy landscape. Bob Maher talks about the need to build a network between small farm producers and consumers. The geographic context is the Annapolis Valley.
Permitlogix.com
Trevor Robar of Landmark Geographic Solutions Inc. and his team provide GIS services relating to management of dynamic geo-located information. In 2013, Trevor partnered with Gerry Watson of Snowbound Studios to develop Permitlogix.com -- a cloud computing service that provides online tools to store, track, and manage building and land development applications for municipal government.
Community-Based Monitoring Network
The Nunavut Wildlife Management Board launched a pilot study in Nunavut to test an innovative approach to the recording of wildlife and harvesting information in three participating Nunavut communities. Noreca Consulting developed a tri-lingual, GPS-enabled mobile application that allows harvesters to collect harvest and observation data while traveling on the land and an interactive mapping and database web application to view the recorded data.
The Lost Art of Cartography
