Capoeira is an art form that has evolved over the centuries from the diverse African cultures brought to Brazil as a result of the slave trade. Capoeira blends elements of martial arts, dance, acrobatics and music. Today capoeira is practiced globally by Brazilians and non-Brazilians of all ages and abilities.

This introductory workshop will be led by Ross Burns of Mestre Azeitona’s Grupo Dendê do Recife of Halifax. The workshop will cover the basic movements and music of this dynamic Brazilian art form.
