Get nourished at our Wednesday Community Night @ the Market. Each Wednesday at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market we have 30 vendors, our $10 Market Suppers, a Busker, Kids Corner and Speaker Series.
Speakers Series (5:30-6:30): Radon Talk with Dr. Elisabeth Kosters
Radon is a radioactive gas that is formed naturally by the breakdown of Uranium. Uranium occurs naturally in some of Nova Scotia's rocks. Radon gas is the most significant cause of lung cancer in non smokers and can become concentrated in homes, particularly in basements. Radon cannot be detected by the senses. It has no colour, odour or taste. The only way to know if you have a radon problem is to test your home.
The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources has published a radon risk map. The Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness can help with testing your home if you think it might be at risk.
Dr. Elisabeth Kosters is an independent earth scientist based in Wolfville. She is an adjunct professor at Dalhousie University's Department of Earth Sciences. She will give a short introduction on Radon risk in our region and will answer questions.
