With Cruel Times in Between is a lyrical and beautiful portrait of Newfoundland culture drawn from the rhythmic writings of one of the province’s most beloved poets, Al Pittman. Using selections from his poems, prose, songs and plays, Theatre Newfoundland Labrador shares the unique culture of island life. An ensemble cast of six wonderfully talented actors create a village and its many characters in TNL’s signature theatrical style - with nothing more than a few chairs, some cloth, their bodies and their voices.
Founded in 1979 by the late Maxim Mazumdar, Theatre Newfoundland Labrador (TNL) operates a year-round professional theatre company from its home base in Corner Brook. First presented in 2011, With Cruel Times In Between was created in collaboration with Second Storey Youth Theatre of Launceston, Tasmania. The show has been widely performed in communities ranging from Fogo Island to Tasmania.
