Meeting / Club
Doors open at 7pm
Monthly meeting of the club. This months speaker Peter Salnikowski, will be making a timely presentation on his work resettling refugees in Yugoslavia, Croatia, Thailand, Nepal and Syria. He'll talk about the realities of refugee life in their country of first asylum and show slides of the camps in Thailand and Nepal. He'll then talk about the realities of refugee life for those who have been resettled to countries like Canada, making specific reference to the incoming Syrians and how we might respond.
Mr. Salnikowski worked for 15 years for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), an international organization that works in all aspects of migration, worldwide. His job was to provide cultural orientation to the refugees being resettled - teaching them about the country to which they are going and what they could expect there.
The Newcomers’ Club welcomes all residents of Wolfville and surrounding area. You don’t have to be a newcomer to come to the meetings or to join the group: long-time residents are welcome too!
Bring your own small coffee cup and join us for a sweet treat.
Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month in the Wolfville Farmers’ Market Building and are open to the public. They feature informative speakers on topics of local interest. Members may also participate in interest groups such as gourmet dining, biking and geocaching, to name a few. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn about the area and forge a sense of community.
