Reminisce at Thorsten Gallery with local writer and folk artist Jockie Loomer-Kruger about growing up in the Annapolis Valley as she reads excerpts from her recently published book, Valley Child - A Memoir: Recounted in Story and Folk Art. This is Jockie’s first book. A retrospective of her art will also be on display as she divulges some of her favourite moments from this collection of childhood stories intended for adult readers.
Jockie’s penned words in Valley Child- A Memoir paint as colourful a picture as each page of art depicting the stories.
“Chubby, fair-haired Eleanor was my best friend when we were five. I loved her with all my heart, and I resented her with an emerald passion.I loved her when we took turns pushing each other on the swing. Her thick, short blonde hair bounced and floated like golden sunbeams doing jumping jacks, and the wide, blue bow she wore flapped like bird wings. My dark braids just slapped me on the back like punishing pieces of rope.”
Jockie will be reading from Valley Child – A Memoir. Admission is free. Jockie will also be available at these times for book signing.
