Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre will offer a special presentation of Jabber, from Geordie Productions of Montreal.
This performance was originally scheduled as one of MIPAC’s “School-Time Series” shows open only to school groups, but with the ongoing labour dispute making school field trips unlikely, Mermaid wants to ensure that this engaging and relevant play can still be presented to local audiences.
Jabber tells the story of a 16-year old Egyptian girl whose parents transfer her to a new school when one morning some graffiti saying “All Muslims must die” is found on the school wall. At her new school, she is the only person wearing a hijab. Through its use of humour, its relevance and creativity, Jabber has engaged over 40,000 teens, teachers and parents across Canada.
The one-hour show is recommended for audiences ages 12 and up. The performance also includes a post-show talk-back session with the actors. Due to the late schedule change, there will be no advance tickets for this performance; all sales will be at the door.
For more information, contact us at 902-798-5841 or puppets@mermaidtheatre.ca. Details about the show are online at geordie.ca/jabber.
