He continues to stay busy performing many concerts, as well as participating regularly with Scotia Festival, The New Brunswick Summer Festival, the Kincardine Music Festival, Musique Royale and as soloist with numerous orchestras centered here in the Maritimes. He has recorded two solo cd’s as well as numerous duo recordings with flautist Patricia Creighton.
As a composer, Peter has fulfilled many commissions including Mar Atlantico; Variations on the Halifax Explosion; a Suite for Clarinet and Orchestra; and the much heralded CBC/SNS commissioned Hurricane Juan Piano Concerto. Of his many other compositions for many instrumental combinations, his most recent work for clarinet quintet, Lamentation was premiered in France in April of 2016 and later repeated in February, 2017 in evening of all Peter Allen works as part of the Cecilia Concert Series.
Peter is currently an Associate Professor of Piano at the Fountain School of Performing Arts at Dalhousie University.

Blue Engine String Quartet: Jennifer Jones, Anne Simons, Alexandra Bates, Hilary Brown
The Blue Engine String Quartet was created by four women as a vehicle for a more personal musical expression apart from their orchestral careers.
With many CBC broadcasts to their credit, the quartet has been at the forefront of the Atlantic Canadian music scene for two decades, whether it’s playing the core repertoire, collaborating with songwriters- most recently Reeny Smith, Catherine MacLellan and Erin Costelo or premiering the music of Canadian composers, the Blue Engine has covered a lot of track.
BESQ’s 2005 album, If It Be Your Will, songs of Leonard Cohen, was met with critical acclaim, including Mr. Cohen himself, who wrote “My dear colleagues, thank you for the sublime gift”.

Erin Costelo (jazz and contemporary singer)
Erin Costelo is an artist who is mining the truth – through writing, arranging, producing and masterful live performance. With a voice unlike any other in Canada she has the ability to successfully float between genres and stages, her unwavering vision continuously offering the best sound and voice to a feeling, idea or story. With songs that sound like they were written by your heroes. Heavily influenced by Gospel and Americana, she’s had the opportunity to open for heroes like Mavis Staples, Dr. John and Bettye Lavette and has recently performed with Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble Band.
Her latest, self-produced album Down Below, the Status Quo was nominated for a total of twelve awards in her home of Eastern Canada and named the best R&B/Sould recording at the 2017 East Coast Music Awards. It is a magical, moonlight-soaked reverie, filled with drama and intensity; in one moment a defiant cry and in the next a desperate whisper. It has been described as “embodying the spirit of Nina Simone” and “conjuring the ghost of Donny Hathaway”.

D’Arcy Gray (percussion)
Canadian percussionist D’Arcy Philip Gray exploits his versatility to find himself in a great variety of performing situations. In the past ten years, Gray has premiered well over 100 new works, mostly solo or chamber music by Canadian composers. He has also given dozens of clinics on three continents on a variety of subjects.
As of summer 2008, Gray has made Halifax, Nova Scotia his new home after 23 years in Montreal. He has been appointed Percussion Instructor at Dalhousie University. He is a graduate of the Juilliard School and McGill University. He has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the Getty Research Institute for the Arts and Humanities. He is a clinician for Yamaha Canada and Sabian. In his spare time he is a dedicated member of the Canadian Ski Patrol, an avid sailor, and a certified SCUBA diver.

Scott Macmillan (composer, conductor, guitar (jazz, Celtic))
Born in Halifax, Scott Macmillan enjoys a stellar reputation in Nova Scotia and abroad for his unusual versatility working in the fields of classical, pop, jazz, blues and celtic music.
Once inked, a Scott Macmillan biography is at once out of date, for he and his passion for creating music have already moved on to a new composition, arrangement commission, collaboration, performance, musical directing live or in the studio, conducting, teaching, or as a clinician.
Music has taken Macmillan to many places, to Carnegie Hall in New York twice, to perform his much loved ode to our world’s oceans Celtic Mass for the Sea, with his partner and librettist Jennyfer Brickenden. He has performed in the British Isles and Germany, the US and has crossed Canada many times to conduct orchestras, perform, make television and radio shows and sound tracks for films. Yet the many who seek out his talents know that Nova Scotia, the home of his birth, is where to find him.
2016 saw the completion of 3 new recordings. In April, Macmillan released Scott ’n the Rocks, Live at Stayner’s featuring his original music composed for his 12-piece jazz ensemble, celebrating their 10th anniversary. In July Scott and Cape Breton fiddler Colin Grant launched their 1st duo recording GOOD2GO and in September Scott released his serious music recording, Currents of Sable Island, an extended composition for solo voice and chamber ensemble based around his experiences on Sable Island. All 3 were nominated for 2017 East Coast Music Awards, Currents of Sable Island garnered Classical Composition of the Year while GOOD2GO took home Trad. Instrumental of the Year.
