Literary Lecture / Seminar Wheelchair Accessible Community
erin.crandall@acadiau.ca
Dr. Natalie Honein will give a presentation entitled, "Unveiling Arab feminism: A narrative discourse with Arab women of the 19th century".
There is a common assumption that Arab feminism is a contemporary phenomenon, only recently articulated. In this talk, Dr. Honein will discuss how in reality, Arab feminist thought has existed since the end of the 19th century. She will share some of the writings of the first five women who publicly articulated activist thought in the 19th century: Aisha al Taimuriya, Zeynab Fawwaz, Huda Shaarawi, May Ziadeh, and Malak Hifni Nassif.
