Bluegrass Extravaganza – Roxeen & Dalrymple / Ryan Dillman & Shadow River

Roxeen & Dalrymple along with Ryan Dillman & Shadow River bring their perfect blend of tradition and distinctive homegrown sound for a Bluegrass Extravaganza.

Half of the afternoon’s entertainment will be Nova Scotia’s Roxeen & Dalrymple. This performance will be the duet’s debut performance in the Annapolis Valley. They may be the province’s newest acoustic act, however, they are far from being new on the music scene. Originally teamed together 25 years ago as band mates of the legendary Spinney Brothers, a life of separate musical paths has brought them back together. Roxeen & Dalrymple is a classic guitar and mandolin duet, a tour de force of vocals, rhythm and traditional melodies.

Individually the duo consists of Roxeen Roberts and Gary Dalrymple. Collectively they are highly respected, veteran musicians with impressive musical resumes. They are multiple East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs) nominees, Maritime Gospel Music awards (MGMA) nominees, and have won numerous Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music Awards (ECBMAs). They have toured coast to coast in Canada and the United States and now, after careers of extensive travel and performing and recording, the duo couldn’t be more excited as to where they have landed musically.

As Roxeen Roberts recently noted, “we honestly love and cherish the classic sounds of traditional bluegrass, country and gospel music”. The duo honour the music of the past yet embrace the present through their own originality. Gary Dalrymple stated, “we both grew up on the sounds of Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton etc, you know, the good stuff. It is this style of music that we are so excited to be performing. Our show includes many of the standards, however, expect to hear some of our own material, songs of course, that are heavily influenced by the music we were raised on”.

Bluegrass fans will also be treated to perennial fan favorites and Valley super group, Ryan Dillman and Shadow River. As a band, Shadow River has been entertaining audiences all across Canada and the Eastern seaboard for a number or years. They have received many accolades, including Band of the Year at the Eastern Canada Bluegrass Music Awards from 2012-2016. As band leader, Ryan Dillman has been performing on stage for most of his life. A superb multi-instrumentalist, Dillman leads Shadow River with his no apologies style of banjo playing. As well, Dillman is a 5-time, Masters winner of Banjo Player of the Year at the Eastern Canada Bluegrass Music Awards.

Both Roxeen & Dalrymple and Ryan Dillman & Shadow River are thrilled to be performing in Berwick. Each act has had busy Summer and Fall tour schedules throughout the Maritimes and as far west as Alberta. As Ryan Dillman noted “it is always great to bring your music home.”
