The Deep Roots Music Festival is delighted that Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Jim Cuddy will kick off this year’s 15th edition. 2017 Juno winner William Prince will open for Cuddy.

For over 35 years, Jim Cuddy has written songs that have become indelible in the soundtrack of Canadian lives. With the release of his fourth solo album, Constellation, he adds ten songs to that extraordinary songbook.

As one of the founding members and creative forces behind Blue Rodeo, Cuddy has received nearly every accolade Canada can bestow upon a musician, from the Order of Canada and induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, to countless JUNO Awards and a Star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. Behind it all is a simple devotion to his craft as a songwriter, which remains Cuddy’s tireless pursuit after more than three decades.

At the 2016 Western Canadian Music Awards, William Prince was named “Aboriginal Artist of the Year” and “Contemporary Roots Album of the Year” at the 2017 Juno Awards. In a full circle moment, he even inducted Bruce Cockburn into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and earned praise from not just Cockburn, but fellow inductee Neil Young.

A traditional round dance and smudging ceremony with local drumming group Melgita't Women will take place in the grassy quad just south of the building at 6:15 PM. People who wish to be smudged may come forward to have this done after the group smudge (until 7:15pm.) If you prefer not to take part in the smudging but would like to watch and listen – please do!

The main stage shows usually sell out so be sure to get your tickets soon!
