Born in Cape Breton and raised in a small Acadian fishing community in Yarmouth County. Dan is a Professional Engineer and lives in Quispamsis, NB with his children. He studied engineering at Acadia University and the Technical University of NS, and always enjoys returning back to Wolfville and the surrounding area.

We are so glad to have Dan Martell as our collaborating yoga teacher for this last week of the Harp & Yoga Festival, edition 2018. He is an inspiration for all who are ready for a wonderful smooth Lifestyle shift in self care through yoga exercises. The session will start with guides meditation with harpist Johanne. The meditation is called: Simply Sailing.

Dan’s journey into yoga started in 2007 with a chair yoga class at a Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre fund raiser after some health concerns. He received his 200-hour yoga instructor certification from Amana Yoga in NB in 2013. In 2017 he took a 50 hour training module in Superflow® Blissology Yoga in Tofino BC, and has been incorporating many of its active flowing sequences in his classes. Superflow® yoga is ocean inspired and infuses surfing, martial arts, hula, skateboarding into its yoga sequences, which really connects you to your breathe. He plans to further his training with Blissology Yoga in the future. The largest class Dan has taught was an outdoor class for the Town of Quispamsis, NB where an estimated 120 people participated; where he enjoyed the challenge and energy of such a large group.

Dan particularly enjoy the challenge and benefits of the more active and flowing styles of yoga such as Ashtanga and Superflow®; but also enjoy slowing it down with a gentle practice from time to time. He believes the benefits of yoga not only improves your stamina, strength and flexibility, but can translate into a greater sense of well-being on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level, increasing your confidence and inner peace. Dan has been practicing martial arts since 2003, and finds that his yoga has helped with his flexibility, balance and state of mind in the martial arts. You might even see a couple martial art poses in his yoga classes.

Dan enjoys teaching and introducing others to the many benefits yoga has to offer, and often interjects humour, because he feels yoga should also be fun in addition to being physically beneficial. One thing that Dan would like his students to know about creating their own yoga practice is… that it is not only about the pose but also about quieting the mind and greater sense of well-being, and to not compare your practice with someone else’s.
