The first Sunday of the month throughout the summer and early fall we welcome artists to take over the museum in Avondale for the afternoon, transforming the space into a community market where artists demonstrate and explain how they create their art or products. We highlight artists and artisans working in both traditional and contemporary methods, with different mediums being showcased each month.
August 4th featured artists:
Ann Whalen
A natural born artist, Ann finds joy and pleasure in nature, her gardens and the simple country life. Inspired to create by what is around her, she loves process and experimenting, often having many weaving and painting projects on the go at once. She tends to make use of natural and found objects in her creations, with a bright and bold palette.
Doris Benedict
Doris has always had a passion for creating with textiles. She incorporates repurposed textiles, mainly wool, into her work. She started using needle felting techniques in her work a few years ago and is enjoying the creativity of this medium.
Chris Trotter
Chris has been felting for about 9 years, over that time she has learnt different techniques in felting. She started out needle felting then learnt wet felting. For the last several years she has been adding fabric to her wool pieces (nuno felting). Last fall at the Felt:feutre Canada symposium, she learnt how to make wool wall sculptures. She enjoys using different techniques in her felted wall art.
