Fiddler on the Roof was first staged in 1964 and won 9 Tony Awards. Set in a small rural village in Russia at the turn of the 20th century just before the Russian Revolution, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. Try as he might to hold on to the traditions that have held his community together for generations, Tevye is a reluctant participant in the massive changes facing society at that time. People actually started to marry for love, Universities promoted wild ideas like democracy and the rights of everyday people. These themes are universal and hold true to this day. All of this wonderful history and some of the very best music, costumes and sets that have ever been staged. The show is very funny and many audiences know the word to almost every song including the classics "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker". The Stage Prophet's production of Fiddler is the groups seventeenth. St. Joseph's Stage Prophets have a reputation for professional sets, amazing orchestral accompaniment, and performances that one expects to see from professional theatre companies.
