To the Moon and Back at ARTsPLACE
“The moon is a loyal companion. It never leaves. It’s
always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our
light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do.”
Tahereh Mafi
To the Moon and Back is a special project created by the Annapolis Region Community Arts Council (ARCAC) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon. The project (June 23 - July 21, 2019) includes a multi-disciplinary exhibition featuring the unique space-inspired art of professional artists, a virtual reality Apollo 11 experience, movie screenings, art talks, and more.
The moon has always been a companion to the people of the Earth. We give it names for the various seasons, write songs about it, use it in artwork and often consider its glow at the heart of romance. It causes the tides to rise and fall, and sometimes lights our way in the darkest nights. The moon holds many fantastic sights: the great craters (many named for astronomers and scientists from the past), mountain ranges, ridges, valleys, and great “seas”.
Main Gallery Artists : Ed Beals / Rhonda Barret / Ted Lind / Geoff Butler / Don Pentz / Rion Microys / Martha Little / Sharon Kennedy / Bonnie Baker / Ray Mackie / Julia Redgrave / Lauren Soloy / Eva McCauley / Amy Rubin Flett / Sally O’Grady / plus space memorabilia
